Seeds of Change 2020 – A Virtual Celebration
Welcome to Seeds of Change week! Crossroads Fund board, staff, and volunteers welcome you to our first fundraiser of the new decade. This occasion marks many firsts - our first virtual celebration, our first week-long Seeds of Change, and unfortunately, the first time that we are not together celebrating the amazing accomplishments of grantees and activists.
The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has killed thousands of people, upended our lives, and deepened fault lines in systems that have not been designed for the many – from the tipped worker, the unhoused, the immigrant, the uninsured, the student, to the incarcerated. These systems are failing far too many people from our communities.
Yet, this moment reinforces the notion that radical imagination is required to dismantle systems that harm and create new systems that center people’s ability to thrive at all times. Our Seeds of Change 2020 awardees manifest what radical imagination looks like. The Street Vendors Association is working toward an inclusive economy that builds political and economic power for all; Cheryl Graves and Ora Schub helped start a movement (restorative justice principles and practices) that provides an alternative to the carceral state; and Raise Your Hand for Illinois Public Education believes that access to quality public education is a right and should therefore be protected and preserved.
We invite you to create space this week to celebrate the awardees, grantees, donors, volunteers – to celebrate us. We have seven days of virtual programming for you to enjoy: award presentation watch parties, good music, and a fabulous virtual silent auction featuring over 150 items to bid on!
Welcome to the celebration!
Help us meet our goal of raising $150,000 to support movement work in Chicago.
