Is my donation to Crossroads Fund tax deductible?
Yes, your donation to Crossroads Fund is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. One of the benefits of giving to a public foundation, is that we are able to support organizations who do not yet have their 501c3 non-profit status, but still give our donors tax deductions for their gifts.

Why give to Crossroads Fund instead of directly to an organization?
While we always encourage you to contribute directly to groups you care about, there are a number of reasons to support grassroots groups through a gift to Crossroads Fund. Crossroads Fund convenes donors, activists, and grantmaking professionals to evaluate potential grantees, to ensure that our grants are going to groups that can use the money strategically and effectively. We are able to identify and support new and emerging movements that might not yet be on our donors’ radar. We also offer our grantees more than financial support, providing training, one on one consultation, and access to a city-wide network of progressive organizations.

Why should I support a foundation at all?
As a public foundation, Crossroads Fund is accountable to the general public. Individual donations provide the bulk of our budget and grantmaking each year, and the majority of our donations are less than $100. By bundling these gifts, we create a pool of resources that supports a much larger community of organizations than any donor could hope to reach on their own. We also provide an alternative to priorities and interests of mainstream foundations, offering funding and support to smaller, community led, grassroots organizations who might not otherwise be considered for grants.

Can I give anonymously?
Yes, Crossroads Fund does accept anonymous gifts, both to support our general grantmaking, and to establish donor advised funds.

Why do some donors make anonymous gifts to Crossroads Fund?
Donors choose to make their gifts anonymously for a variety of reasons. They may be making a large, one-time donation, and don’t want to create the expectations that their support will be ongoing. They may not be ready to let their friends and community know about their level of giving. Or they may have a personal connection with an organization they wish to support, and are worried that a donation might change the tenor of their relationship with that group.

Crossroads Fund encourages people with wealth to be open about their giving. It sets a good example and can serve as a conversation starter about how we talk about wealth and philanthropy. At the same time, we recognize that not all of our donors can or feel comfortable giving under their own name, and we honor their wish to remain anonymous.

I don’t have much money, are there other ways I can support Crossroads Fund?
